Located in the heart of Port Orchard, the park will provide a variety of activities for people of all ages.
The city is working with BCRA to create a master plan for the development of South Kitsap Regional Park. The plan includes an approximately one-mile trail, a skate park, and a playground. Additionally, the park will include a ride-on miniature train that runs from April to October. There are two entrances to the park and two restrooms that are seasonal.
This is a great opportunity for families to spend quality time together in a safe environment. The South Kitsap park is one of the few in Washington state that allows families to bring their pets. However, dogs and private vehicles are not allowed on County Athletic Fields.

The trail is part of a larger project by Kitsap County Parks and Recreation and is now open to the public. The trail features simple trail challenges that kids can complete and nature education activities. The park will celebrate the new trail with an opening ceremony this Saturday, Sept. 8, at 10 a.m. The trailhead is near the playground. Despite the relatively recent opening of the trail, it has received plenty of use already.
Miniature train
If you’re interested in miniature trains, you can find one at South Kitsap Regional Park in Port Orchard. The miniature train, operated by Kitsap Live Steamers, follows a 7.5-inch-gauge railroad. It lasts about 12 minutes and is powered by real steam engines. It’s free to ride, and you can enjoy it on select weekends and holidays.
Before boarding, passengers must listen to a brief safety message. The ride lasts 10 to 15 minutes and includes displays along the way. Very young children must be accompanied by an adult. The train also provides safety instructions prior to departing the depot. Up next is Gold Mountain Golf Club.
